Raising Standards Together

Coaching and mentoring

Coaching and mentoring is a key characteristic of the professional learning model (PLM).

It supports and encourages practitioners to develop their own potential and also the potential in others:

coaching involves the provision of guidance on specific skills and competencies
mentoring involves more general support on many aspects of professional learning.
All educational practitioners in Wales can use coaching and/or mentoring to support the ongoing development of their practice and to improve learners’ outcomes.

See Professional Learning Pack Topic 4 (Collaborative Working)

This topic reflects on the professional benefits of receiving and providing mentoring and coaching.
