National Reading and Numeracy Tests and personalised assessments

A collection of resources to help you to prepare for and administer the National Reading and Numeracy Tests and personalised assessments. The administration handbook below explains the processes for both the paper-based tests and online personalised assessments.

Test Ordering System is live

22 October 2018 to 23 November 2018

Tests dispatched to schools

Primary schools: week commencing 29 April 2019

Secondary schools: week commencing 8 April 2019

Middle schools and other settings ordering tests for both primary and secondary learners will receive materials for Years 7, 8 and 9 during the week beginning 8 April 2019 and materials for Years 2 to 6 during the week beginning 29 April 2019.

Schools administer tests

Primary schools: Tuesday 7 May to Tuesday 14 May 2019

Secondary schools: Monday 29 April to Tuesday 14 May 2019

Marking

By date set by local authority for the Welsh National Tests Data Collection (WNTDC).

Last date for data upload

As set by local authority, but by 7 June 2019 at the latest.

Results to schools

By the end of the summer term.

Transition to online personalised assessments for reading and numeracy

Online personalised assessments will be phased in over a three-year period, starting with the Numeracy (Procedural) Personalised Assessment this school year.

This will be followed by Reading Personalised Assessments in academic year 2019/20 and Numeracy (Reasoning) Personalised Assessments in academic year 2020/21.

Over time the online personalised assessments will replace the current paper-based national tests.
