This topic is fully contextualised in the Welsh context and considers the national priority of closing the poverty gap. Learners will learn to identify potential barriers to literacy learning (including poor oracy) and make informed choices about selecting effective prevention and intervention strategies. An important element of this topic will be to examine best practice in schools that succeed in overcoming barriers to literacy and offer realistic and effective whole-school approaches to ensuring that every learner achieves.
