Masters in Educational Practice: Child and adolescent development 0-19

5

Social and emotional development

5.1

Background

There is evidence that social-emotional development has been linked to academic success. It is therefore important that teachers are aware of the stages of social and emotional development in the learners they work with as well as strategies for supporting their learners’ development in these areas (Raver, 2002; Zins, Bloodworth, Weissberg, & Walberg, 2004).
