This topic has considered the theoretical concepts underpinning typical and atypical child development. Development of skills usually follows a similar trajectory and most children attain major milestones at roughly the same time. However when this is not the case, i.e. a child sits on either end of the distribution curve, particular attention should be paid to nurture the child to develop to their full potential. This may involve following certain procedures or speaking with the headteacher/head of year to discuss best practice and possible opportunities within the school to support the individual.
