Statutory and regulatory frameworks

This topic will establish how current practices in the field of special educational needs (SEN) relate to statutory and regulatory frameworks and relevant policy initiatives at national and local level. There will be a historical overview of statutory and regulatory frameworks in order to contextualise current policy. An up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework of SEN is important because policy underpins current practice in schools and it is relevant to all sectors.

Throughout this topic activities will include a historical timeline and an opportunity to reflect critically on how policy has an impact on practice. By the end of this topic the intention is that you have an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework related to SEN.

Aims

  • to have an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties and responsibilities of teachers and the statutory framework within which they work.
