Numerical Reasoning: Supported Marking Service 2019
Once again in 2019 we will be providing the Supported Marking Service for the Year 7 to 9 Numerical Reasoning Tests.
NFER will run the service on Welsh Government’s behalf. Depending on school size, places will be available to send up to six practitioners to cover the marking of the year 7, 8 and 9 scripts.
The supported marking sessions will provide:
- live script marking with guidance and support from an expert marking team comprising numeracy specialists
- training on a mark scheme for a specific year group delivered in either Welsh or English
- clerical support to check mark totals.
Three marking sessions will be held during the test window, and two immediately after the window:
- 10 May – Llandrindod Wells (Metropole Hotel)
- 11 May – Cardiff (Cardiff City Stadium)
- 13 May – Llandudno (Venue Cymru)
- 15 May – Llanelli (Parc y Scarlets)
- 16 May – Cardiff (Principality Stadium)
Feedback received from previous events has been very positive and the events are highly recommended by delegates. The service provides professional development for markers and valuable diagnostic information on learner performance.
The events give an opportunity for all scripts to be marked on the day so we recommend that you bring as many scripts as possible with you.
Invitations will be sent to schools in early March with full details. Funding will be provided to schools to support attendance at these events and it is strongly recommended that all schools with learners in years 7 to 9 take up this valuable opportunity to attend.
Headteachers will receive an email and postal invitation to the events in the week commencing 4 March 2019. This will include details of how to register attendance at an event via the new online registration form. If you have any further queries regarding the events please contact NFER by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone on 01753 637116.
Training Package for Regional Education Consortia
We will be providing training to regional consortia in the years 2-6 numerical reasoning test mark schemes. This will enable consortia colleagues to better advise those marking the papers and ensure consistency in mark scheme application. Each regional consortium will be responsible for delivering training and support to schools in their area so please contact your local team to find out more information.
