Reporting on the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework is changing

With immediate effect schools are only expected to produce an annual narrative report for parents/carers based on the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) in:

  • English, Welsh and Maths at Key Stages 2 and 3
  • Language, Literacy and Communication Skills and Mathematical Development in the Foundation Phase.

This change will be for all schools.

The expectation that schools implement the LNF and formatively assess using the LNF across the curriculum will remain.

Guidance on LNF reporting will be updated to reflect the change in due course.

Why it’s changing

The aim of this change is to enable schools to focus efforts on literacy and numeracy development in effective curriculum planning and assessment for learning approaches; a key focus of the new curriculum. 

However, if schools feel that they have effective systems in place for reporting on the LNF across the curriculum they are free to continue reporting in this way. This will be a decision for individual schools.
